Partner for life,
We do as we please
And I am reminded that you've taught me that.
But I can't hear your steps as you left the house anymore.
Long gone,
I circle on.
I sleep still.
Just pull the rug from under my body, awake me.
Rekindle my heart with your wisdom.
You were never supposed to leave,
Keep a candle aflame by your bedside,
So when I arrive I can see.

I miss the child in your
Cornflower blue eyes
Always looking at me as if
I could do no wrong during
Our time of desperation
~that time the walls were crumbling
And laughter turned to pain

A storm can surprise its inhabitants
Nature threw hard hail stones at us
While we ducked for cover
In each other's freckles
And sun-bleached innocence
~confused by the furious
Flashes of angry insecurity
Somewhere deep within our little hearts
We knew that love wasn't something
You needed to prove
Or makes you feel uncomfortable
They never seemed to get it,
But we did.

Rain dance
We all sing to the sky
Dancing and twirling to the ever present moon light
"Bring the thunder! Bring the clouds! "
Pulsing louder and louder even the children cry
Within these nations
Separate but souls united
One can have to many days of the sun
"Brother raven"
She whispers
"Please bring word to above
"Our crops are dying
"Our souls are thirsty
"And our rivers thin
"Please, Oh Tlaloc,
"Cleanse us of our sin"
Prayers danced through the night

Joe
You are my sunshine

The eldest of us all
He would pick me up after work
And sing to me I was his baby sister

You are my sunshine my only sunshine

I loved him so big and solid so good
I used to hug his neck as he lifted me
Like a feather in his arms
I love you Joe

You make me happy when skies are grey

There was a war in far off land
I do not understand wars
I just wanted my Joe

You never know dear how much I love you

He went away in a soldiers uniform
I waited at the gate for him every day

Two soldiers came today and talked to mom
She wept and held her head in her hands
At night in my sleep I see you Joe

I was looking over the balcony
And saw your brother
Put something down the back
Of your grey dress.

He fled laughing
Like the tormenting
Fool he was, leaving
You screaming
And stamping your feet:
Saying it's a spider or worm
Down my back.

I ran down the concrete stairs
Of the flats two at a time
And ran to you.

I looked down the back
Of your grey dress.

I saw the fading white vest,
The navy blue underwear,
But no spider or worm,
Just wet paper rolled
In the shape of a worm.

I took it out
And showed you.

You swore at your
Disappeared brother.

Your mother told you
To shut the noise
Or feel her hand.

We sat on the grass
At the side of the flats,
And I showed you the toy gun
I'd bought the day before
At the cheap shop
Through the square.

You held it in your small hands
Giving it the moody stare.
