The Rainy Day

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart, and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

Dressing for Christmas Day

They both stood admiring the Christmas lights
Staring lovingly into the evening sky.
He was wearing rather fetching woollen tights
And she was beginning to wonder the reason why.

He put on his false white beard
And tried to slip on some massive black boots.
She has guessed and it was what she had feared
He did have some strange whacky persuits.

Meanwhile she had slipped into a little costume
She had decided to dress like her friend Frilly Mary
She had found a feather boa in her bedroom
And she fancied herself as a Fairy.

€œGood grief, look at her, she has a wandâ€
He had become quite hot.
He dipped his foot in the pond
And considered his position and what he'd got

€œNow why would she want to be dressed like thatâ€
She has more lights on her wings than the tree.
He knew he could definitely smell a rat
€œAnd I can sniff, oh yes, that is me. â€

She tiptoed over and guessed straight away
€œYou are Santa Claus are you notâ€
€œCome on, where have you parked the sleighâ€
Now he had gone a funny shade of hot.

€œI could easily ask you about your attireâ€
He mounted his high horse.
It was like adding oil to a fire
And let nature run it's course.

They had a bit of a set to
And they both thought they could hear ringing.
They were bells and quite a few
And they could hear children singing.

They both realised the magic day had come
Christmas carols and everywhere was lit up.
€œcare to join me in the funâ€
She did and to that he raised his sherry cup.

Fall in Love Every Day

Falls in love with everyone every day
... and then...
Opens his mouth but has nothing to say

Falls to his knees when the flowers decay
... and then...
Opens his eyes but he can't see the way

So...
Who are you?
I am blinded by the cataracts
Deafened by the laughter
Muted by quotation marks
Which come before and after

And...
My breath still holds the demon
But the leopard holds my tongue
No more use pretending
That I need this iron lung

When the tape deck stops, when the vision dims
The curtains close and the show begins
Who will be there?
You
... and then...
Nobody

Fathers Day

It was in this place, found in the southern sky,
That he was born between two bright stars, Spica and Antares.
Libra's scales of justice would be his destiny.
Articulate, creativity and truthfulness was his badge of integrity.

A southpaw that had hands of strength and determination.
An astronomical heart that pounded out an undying love for his family.
Your family is remembering you this Father's Day, and for those to come.
And this evening, as we face the southern sky, we'll signal you with our flash lights...

*... so you know we love and miss you dearly

Day Dreamer

A clear sky
Birds fly
Baby cry
Wonder why
Handsone guy
Oh! My
Smiling away
Makes me shy
Blushing away
I tipped over
Met a post
And rolled over
A Day dreamer
Was I
Beamed eyes
Searched the guy
No luck
Lost my wallet
No bucks
Walked home
In his thoughts
All alone

Went out the other day.

Went out the other day
With a most beautiful woman
She was perfect in ever way
When she smiled the room lit up
When she danced
All I could do was sway
We had a good time that day
So i walked her home

Then
Then it turns out
She was gay!

One Day

On a perfect summer day
When the sky above is blue,
The sea of the same hue,
When time isn't running out,
I'll think of you.

One day,
A long way off from now,
When time has bleached
All but the happy memories
Of our time together,
When posing for a picture,
To bring that Mona Lisa smile
To my lips,
Right at the last second
Before the click,
I will let myself think of you.

What is a happy day?

The library is full of people... and me...

Some of these days are so bright

That they print all washed out

In my memory.

After echoes of a hungry heart deafen my eardrums

Today was an uncanny unbearable lull.

Absolutely dysfunctional with no new words

Only reflections of some older ones unspoken.

I was walking down the streets, mumbling words

From some past conversations, smiling...

The day it does not give you an account

Of whether it was happy in substance or

Subliminal in its relentless pursuit.

What is a happy day?

I saw a picture of a Syrian boy stained in blood,

Victim of a political war; this child

And then an old man

Who has been building a helicopter

Out of spare parts.

My friend thinks

I write a lot...

I don't know what else to do

day,  happy.
