Putting on a Jumper.

First sound before first sight
Is the spit and howl of windy sleet.

First sight the pearly water
Dribbles down the hopeless window
And Cold sneaks in to hug your bones.

Up into the shivering morning
Two bodies leap
One earthy flesh one gossamer wisp

The faintest touch of silk
Up a backbone a thousand small soldiers
Stand to attention
Of the coldest kiss

Next and suddenly
Brisk warmth over rubbed skin
Static woollen heat

The whisper of a touch
Up a backbone a thousand small soldiers
Slump from duty
And Cold slips and idles away

Rooftop jumper

"if you jump, i jump. i will never leave you behind. "*
He says.
Those words were the last few words he told me.
And i'm here, saying sorry.

Dear you,
I'm sorry for not jumping with you.
I was supposed to
And i didn't stop you.
I swear it was nothing intentional,
I loved you with all my heart,
And i will never forget you.

But that's the thing,
You came in first
And i was supposed to, second.
But i didn't.
Because i was scared.
Scared of falling
Without you

You let go of my hand
As you fell from the ledge
Of a rooftop of a small town.
A small town with the dark night gazing on top,
And the stars twinkling above.
I watched you fall
With my own eyes
As tears form around them
I regret everything.

"how could i find someone like you, now that you're gone? "
I say.

Rain splattered down my hair
As i look down the pale body down the streets below
People were looking up
And i vanished away.
I didn't jump.

No, i didn't save you.
I didn't stop you.
I was there with my own eyes,
Looking at you fall.
And i didn't do anything,
And i was blamed for everything.

You know i will always love you.
You know i should have stopped you.
I will never forget you,
And remember, i will always be there for you.

Jumper

I can't always sustain

A spectacular nature.

Jumper

I was so high up
Afraid not that I would fall
More if I would jump.

A Jumper's Legacy

Harsher critique doled out on a Thursday
Devoid of thought, donning
Flimsy membranes of indifference

While rain-slicked pavement
Shroud a multitude of transgressions,
And unseeing onlookers absorb

Only the merest visual of
Yellow brick, gone as a dream
In the winds of fleeting youth

And red brick, stilted upon vast acres
Compounding with visceral wisdom
Of a stain that was never allowed

To exist

YOUR RED WOOLLEN JUMPER.

Your mother's washed
Your red patterned
Woollen jumper,
The Christmas one
We call it, as that
Was when
You wore it last.

She hung it on
A wooden hanger
In the hall to dry.

Seeing it there,
Silent and empty,
Opened in me
A deeply wounded,
Unuttered cry.

Later when dry,
I took it down
To turn
The right way in
And fold,
Then pressed against
My cheek and chest
To hold,
As if
For a moment
You were there again,
Your beating heart,
Your pulse of life,
Your solid being,
But I knew you weren't,
Just the coloured wool,
The red patterned jumper,
That just been washed scent.

I thought you immortal;
How sad that is,
That illusion love made,
That you will always be there, lie,
That you will
Never never die.

I clutched
The jumper tight;
Tried to sense you there,
Your pounds of flesh,
Your gentle self,
Your body
Within the wool.

How sad that is,
They'll say,
The old sad fool.

Your mother washed
And dried your
Red patterned
Woollen jumper
Yesterday, today
I placed it on
A plastic hanger
And put away.

The Jumper

In this shroud of warmth
I hide
Clutching every part of me
Together
As insecurity swells and burns

The hem must surely go down
Some more
The neck must pull up
Further
I want to submerge

Sink into the scratchy tent
Completely
Drown amongst my
Limbs
As I writhe and stretch to provide sufficient space

For the monster inside my head

Jumper

Every ones favourite jumper is holey
When you reach a certain mind-set
Comfortable is the only fashion
